I won’t be shopping at Target this year. According to an article in The Gateway:
quote: According to Target's Web site at www.target.com, the reason for not allowing the bell ringers was due to the fact that "We receive an increasing number of solicitation inquiries from nonprofit organizations and groups each year and determined that if we continue to allow the Salvation Army to solicit, then it opens the door to any other groups that wish to solicit our guests.
"While some of our guests may welcome the opportunity to support their favorite charity or cause, allowing these organizations to solicit means that Target would also have to permit solicitation by organizations whose causes or behavior may be unacceptable to our guests."
Bolshevik. I am going to email Target and let them know that they have lost my business not only this holiday season but every subsequent one. I’m also going to go out of my way to praise the management of those stores who continue to honor a cherished and most worthy cause.

Due to your policy of banning the Salvation Army bell ringers I will be taking my business elsewhere. Should you reconsider this short-sighted and truly gutless policy then I will consider frequenting your store in the future.
No, I'm not a Christian zealot or right-wing whacko. I am an American shopper who sees no harm in allowing continued support for such a cherished and worthwhile symbol of the Christmas season. I do, however, see harm when a corporation so easily knuckles under out of fear of lawsuits from the various gangster-style special interest pressure groups and their lawyers.
Have a heart and grow a backbone. We live in a great country and it’s a country made all the better when people stand up for things of value and oppose, if only modestly, those who would tear down these cherished and healthy symbols. Even worse are those who assist them out of fear of lawsuits or misguided ideas of diversity. It’s Santa Claus, for goodness sakes, and you’re raking in scads of money because of this holiday. Give something back. Take a stand against this kind of corporate and politically correct silliness.

Good letter, Brad. I doubt Target will change their policy, however, as they've already rationalized it with slippery slope arguments. The truth is that hardly anyone but Salvation Army volunteers have the commitment to stand in the cold and ring that bell. I don't think they'd get much competition.

Good point, Phil. But slippery slope or not, I've already dashed off a letter-to-the-editor to NRO and posted this whole spiel on another forum (no, not that one).
