God: Another Perspective
When I hear them speak of You
Calling You "King", "Judge", "Most High",
I laugh.
They image you as distant, remote,
threatening, authoritarian.
They listen but they do not hear.
They are blind and say, "we see."
Caught up in hearsay and tradition,
They forego the experience of You--
Your scent, Your taste, Your touch
Your presence
Stephen, the martyr, knew.
He could smile as they hailed stones upon him.
So caught up was he in the bountiness of Your Love
So enraptured by Your Face
I know You as kind, gentle, benevolent
A whisper in the breeze
A peacefulness in my tears
Joy in my sorrow
I cry at the beauty of Your Touch
You pursue me, your creature,
in my dark nights
and
infuse me with Your Passion.
You talk to me through conversations with others.
and
in the midst of Silence
Your caress is gentle as dewdrops on blades of grass.
You, who knew me before creations fury,
Gently persuade
Healing me with Your Touch
They talk of being your "soldier."
I talk of you as vulnerable "Beloved"....
the One who breathes into me with Life.
Your Passion for Your creatures was your scandal
Your irrational, overwhelming Love...
They call you "King."
I call You "Beloved" "Friend" "Vulnerable One"
"Most Awesome Mystery Who Gives Me Life"
