A New Ager at Manresa

[D]irector: About your contemplation: acquired, passive or infused?

[R]etreatant: I was cavorting with my gopis, consorting with my muse.

[D]: Your experience in prayer: sorrow, love or gratitude? Did you feel an inner stirring? a change of attitude?

[R]: I was dreaming of the wood nymphs, beautiful fairies, ever lewd, as I walked along the batture, near the levee, in the nude.

[D]: What manner of metanoia's gripped you? turned you heart from right to wrong? Has our liturgy not equipped you with the strength to move along?

[R]: Ah, the liturgy, yes, it moved me, when I heard the sirens' song, back to the gopis, muse and fairies, with the nymphs where I belong.

[D]: To see yourself as God sees you would do you so much good. Forsake this sensual nature; do the Exercises as one should.

[R]: Well I thought the Exercises were contemplation attaining love, that these gorgeous whirling dervishes were thus sent from up above.

[D]: Have you thought to beg the Lord for some grace on this retreat? read the Principle and Foundation? put Gospel shoes upon your feet?

[R]: What I mostly came to do here was to drink and eat and sleep. That the Wood was filled with ladies was an unexpected treat.

[D]: For all these years I've thought our men had come here to be good. And now you mean to tell me they're after women in the Wood?

[R]: I see you're disappointed, Father, but I surely thought you knew: a New Age is upon us; Inigo's girlfriends wait for YOU!
