Hi again, Phil... and JB,
In his book called "In Search of Stones", M. Scott Peck, MD, states there are many "reasons" for a condition...In his Psychriatric practice he came to the realization that the principle of, "All symptoms are overdetermined", which he translated to everything in life; "Anything to any significance is overdetermined"; or more simply stated, "For any thing of importance, there are multiple reasons"
I use this statement, because, #1. it echoes John's views on almost every condition and philosophy... he has also discovered this in his reasoning verbatiums... and I echo in my listening to others all the time... that there is as many reasons under the sun... as people!... for seemingly everything... especially the things we value, and spend time evaluating and discussing.
I love the I am, Am I? title, sounds like Suess's idea of God... I am. but are we? ..are we "i am"? The problem with trying to understand and explain verbally the esoteric questions of faith is that most are heart flet (as John points out in many of his views... the heart-felt is "God as Love"... who can rationalize "love"? Who can explain it verbally or in writing...completely? It is the direct experience that we understand, not so much the reason or nonreason.
For the dualist vs. non-dualist... how can we "be" other than both? It is our ability to hold both truths that is next to Goliness... or Love. It is from the mind of the controller, the power-minded, the money-loving ones who have a vested interest in dualism... keep the crowds under control, tell them what to believe, exert power over those who are fearful and need security.... AND, make sure you keep your "ego" intact!... God help you if you loose THAT! ... all which leads us to exclusiveness in religion, culture, worldly matters.
Inclusiveness and unity are found only when we get the "ego"-self out of the way (as I seem to see in the Eastern culture so much better than our materialistic Western society) ... this is most difficult in our society, which places so much value on the self...self actualized, self motivated, self interest.. you know... we are not called to real unity or non-dualism, it is not natural for our culture... My Goodness, it's even contra-culture! That's communism, you might even turn me in to the government for saying as much!!! ...remember McCarthism?
Thank God, we are turning around in our society, and are now able to hold TWO truths... TWO views... maybe more as M. Scott states... that we can hold BOTH dualism and non-dualism.... there is a middle road... there is an "either/or"... and a "both/and"! It is alive and well in us.... and WAS always more so among women than men, who tend to be more competitive and individual in nature... then THAT's another story...
but an important one to help us in our Western thinking and society.... which needs to come toward the "middle-ground" more... thus these movements in society we see now toward "natural, nature, forms of spirituality sought by the public, nuturering, support groups, etc, etc... more toward the feminine qualities which have been dormant for so long in the West... even wroship of the "feminine divine"... Hopefully, we will not totally go to the Right in our thinking and behaviours... we will gain so much, though if we do go toward the middle of the road, we will help our society in so many ways... and our children's children in the future!
I see much hope for the future... with God's grace and guidance, that is!
yes, John,
we are Light
we are waves
we are particles
we are waves-particles
we are white light
we are rainbows...
we are dark
we are shadow
we are good
we are evil
we are hate
we are Love
we are dualist
we are non-dualist
we are separate
we are united
...we are God's holy people
here to learn and grow and love and serve...
as you do so well.
God Bless.
