I think that announcement is unfortunate, because it doesn't say anything that Vatican Council II hadn't already said, only in a much gentler and inviting kind of way. It's hard to see how this will accomplish anything in terms of advancing ecumenical dialogue, nor, less, in attracting people to the Catholic Church. For outsiders, it kind of sounds like a "we're the best" kind of statement, which sounds arrogant and off-putting.

What I would suggest is that, if the Catholic Church is really the true Church of Christ in which the fullness of salvation resides, that we simply live that out before the world. Let's let the faith and reasonableness of our doctrines speak for themselves, and the love found among our communities be the light that draws others into this fullness. This would be far more effective than promulgating formal documents claiming that we're better than everyone else, and that they are flawed in some manner.
