hey phil
well thanks for responding so quickly!! well in response to your comments let me first start of with your comment on the soul, psueke in greek i believe it is spelled, is our beings composition of the emotion, mind (intellect), and will. the writer of hebrews distingishes the two and their need of division in hebrews 4:12. the Lord Jesus in associates the soul with the self, the personality of the person, in matthew 16:24-25 saying one must deny "himself" and later saying to gain the soul-life(gr. psueke) is to lose it and to lose it(deny) the soul-life(one's personality, one's self-interests having altogether to do with their feelings "emotions" intellect and thoughts "mind" and freedom of choice "will") on His behalf will gain it.
also in regard to the human spirit and the Spirit of God, you very accurately picked up what many are now terming the "mingled" spirit because upon regeneration the Lord as the life-giving Spirit(1 corinthians 15:45b) comes to dwell in our human spirit (romans 8:16, 1 corinthians 6:17).
the tripartite nature of man is altogether related to God's complete salvation, of the spirit, upon redemption, the soul, daily, and the body, upon rapture. if not, God becoming a man and then becoming the life-giving Spirit to indwell us would have no meaning, God being triune would be altogether for no reason. even Henry LeBanc in his book "Christian Faiths"?? i am not sure if that is the title, has a chapter on the "economic trinity" and criticises luther and calvin for their overemphasis on redemption and forgetting that God is triune to "be with you all" 2 corinthians 13:14.
praise the Lord, you can find many helpful books on the triune God in our experience as tripartite beings at www.livingstream.com
