Hi John,

When awareness is rooted in the third eye, it can be clearly seen that the mind's conceptual view of reality is inherently dualistic, for, ultimately, it is rooted in the perception of opposing tendencies found among the information gathered through the senses. The emotions also perceive dualistically, and, as you know, the mind is enormously influenced by emotions.

In the third eye, see-er, see-ing and seen are united, so that what is seen is experienced as occurring in the same field as the see-ing itself. This is not a negation of distinctions, and need not lead to monistic conclusions. It is, however, an affirmation of the unitive dimension of reality: that all is occurring on the same stage, and that awareness itself is that stage.

When we begin to think about this and conceptualize, we are back into the world of distinctions.

As you can see, I come at this through experience, rather than inductive or deductive reasoning. There is much to be said for those processes, of course, and Wilber is as good at those exercises as any that I've come across.

Peace,

Phil
