I recall from my seminary days some discussion of how the Incarnation changed things "ontologically" for all people through all of time. IOW, eternity somehow intersected with time, the universe having been created "with" time rather than "in" time. Can this metaphor be stretched to make this "operating system upgrade" somehow available to all of humanity throughout created history?
: you do seem to be saying that it's only by faith that we're saved,
and i can go with that, to a point. it doesn't seem to me that a
loving God would send a good person to hell just because they didn't
belong to a church or be born again or something.
Good point N.C. and it tracks on my musing above. If this PxOS were only an upgrade available in the Christian Era, would that be fair to those who lived prior to the birth of Jesus? Similarly, what about those of implicit faith, those whom Rahner referred to as "anonymous Christians"? How does the metaphor apply to them?
Maybe I shouldn't push the metaphor toward a premature collapse by straying too far from Philo's original purpose and intent but N.C. raised some interesting issues. I, too, could use a refresher on those evasive philosophical terms: ontology, epistemology, metaphysics, etc
