Friends: A friend of mine recently returned from an international conference for Buddhist-Christian Dialogue (I think is what it was) and said that, from their working group exchanges, he learned that it was not uncommon for people, in both traditions, to confuse psychological integrative processes with spiritual practice/ascesis processes and that much unnecessary harm and suffering results therefrom.

Does this ChristOS versus HumanOS distinction shed any light on these differences between psychological processes and spiritual practice processes? Both operating systems are assuredly a gift from God and work together.

From the ChristOS metaphor, though, especially as Philo's tablature presented, those discontinuities and those bridges between the old and the new do seem to affirm what my friend was saying: there is something distinctly and profoundly different going on, radically so, when we run in Human OS versus Christ OS.

I think of how, in the Microsoft-based environment, one can interrupt the normal boot sequence and load-up this OS or that, this configuration or another. Sounds like those Mac platforms can do this almost seamlessly nowadays. As we have learned, through the school of hard knocks, knowing which operating system is running makes a profound difference in functionality for this session or that, this application program or that.

The lesson? We need to carefully choose which diagnostic tools and utility programs we run to measure and enhance system performance and throughput. Running an old 16 bit version of Norton Utilities on a 32 bit operating system environment could wreak havoc with a file allocation table because, for instance, those new long filenames would be identified as outlaws and dealt with mercilessly!

So, too, with Christ OS running, when our psychospiritual milieu needs "diagnostics and/or enhancement", it matters greatly that we run the "spiritual direction" utility program for some maladies, the "psychological/psychiatric counseling" utility program for others. Much harm can result from running the wrong utility program on a human "emergence" versus a human "emergency"!

Does this make sense?

Shalom,
jboy
