A best religion question

Hi.

There was a lot in the news about some vatican statement a couple of weeks ago. I still see follow-up news stories. It all had to do with who's got the best religion.

If the church teaches that people from other religions can be saved and many other religions believe the same thing, then why does any of this matter? For that matter, someone used the word indifferentism and said it was wrong. Why is it wrong from a catholic viewpoint? Why would it be wrong from a budhist or hindu or chinese viewpoint?

I hope you can understand my questions and I really would appreciate any responses from any believrs of religions.
