From Ivan's posting in another sub-thread: He mentions: 1) our
ontology (using a hierarchy which allows for continuity/discontinuity
to be an open-ended question); 2) our epistemology - which can be
pluralistic and still not unscientific; 3) verily, verily, yea, even
our metaphysics using your Thomistic approach to causality (though I
wince at its transmutation back to Aristotlean ideas of formal and
logical causes and positively deny final causes, at least those that
are teleological); 4) a natural mysticism (strictly monistic
though).

Ivan and Christ OS SA's (I like that, Systems Analysts! Kewl!)
First of all, Ivan, you can't hide behind that pseudonym any
longer! That last post gave you away entirely. We met on the beach at
Cape Cod during last summer's Religion & Science Institute and
laid that same ontology-epistemology-metaphysics-mysticism schema on
me in precisely the same order with all the same lingo! not to
mention a few transparent "pick up" lines
I've given all that a lot of thought and a little bit of reading and web browsing and such. Our monistic worldviews overlap enough, I believe, for us to further explore whether or not we can somehow reconcile my pantheism with your nontheistic materialism. Being, after all, is being and, with a little more give and take, we may discover that only linguistics and semantics separate us.
Who was it that said to consider what would happen if we conceived of this OS as a "thou" instead of an "it". Maybe there is little practical consequence from which direction we go here if we just call both the it and thou ---> consciousness? I still easily square all of this with much of my Catholic upbringing.
I'd like to pursue this with you further in Cape Cod at the RSI
conference. Eric is one of the presenters this year. Meanwhile, I'm
willing to look past your boyish advances (really, now, calling me a
hardbody or hottie or whatever it was
Small World "Ivan"
